Hindu Worker Killed by Mob

A 25-year-old Hindu factory worker, Dipu Chandra Das, was brutally killed by a large group of people (a mob) in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. This happened after false rumors spread that he had insulted religious feelings.

Police officials said they faced big problems trying to reach the scene. A huge crowd and a long traffic jam stopped them. They also suggested that if someone had called for help earlier, Dipu's life might have been saved.

Police Response and Arrests

The Superintendent of Industrial Police, Md Farhad Hossain Khan, was told about the incident around 8:00 PM. He said that by then, the situation was already out of control.

Police tried to get to the factory quickly, but:

  • Hundreds of people were on the roads, making it very hard to get through.
  • A 10-kilometer traffic jam lasted for almost three hours, blocking police vehicles.
  • When police finally reached the factory gate, they saw an angry mob carrying Dipu's body towards a main highway, about two kilometers away.

The police chief noted that his office was 15 kilometers from the factory. A local police station was much closer. He stressed that a timely call could have made a difference.

So far, 12 people have been arrested in connection with Dipu Chandra Das's killing. The latest arrests include Ashik (25) and Kaium (25).

What Happened at the Factory

The tragic event took place at Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Ltd. Here's a timeline of what happened:

  1. Around 5:00 PM: A group of workers started protesting inside the factory. They accused Dipu of saying bad things about religion, though the factory manager said there was no proof.
  2. Protest Grows: Hundreds of workers gathered, making the situation worse.
  3. Around 8:45 PM: Angry people broke open a gate and entered the factory. They pulled Dipu out of a security room and attacked him.
  4. Local Residents Join: People from the local area also joined the attack on Dipu.
  5. Dipu Killed: Dipu died at the factory. His body was then taken to the highway and set on fire.

Government's Promise and Other Unrest

Bangladesh's government has strongly condemned the killing. They have promised that everyone responsible for this crime "will not be spared" and will face justice.

The article also mentions other recent troubles in the country, including the killing of a youth leader named Sharif Osman Hadi. He was shot during an election event on December 12 and later died in Singapore.

Police are actively looking for Faisal Karim Masud, who they believe shot Hadi. Officials have not found clear proof that any political group was involved in Hadi's murder, but they are investigating all possible reasons.
