Code of Ethics
Our Code of Ethics sets out the principles that guide our editorial work and newsroom decisions.
1. Independence
Editorial decisions are made independently of commercial, political or personal interests. Advertising and sponsored content are kept clearly separate from editorial content and are labelled accordingly where applicable.
2. Accuracy and fairness
We aim to present information accurately, fairly and in proper context. Headlines and summaries should reflect the substance of the story and avoid exaggeration or distortion.
3. Respect and sensitivity
We avoid publishing content that promotes hatred, unlawful discrimination or gratuitous violence. When reporting on sensitive topics, we aim to minimise harm and respect the dignity and privacy of individuals wherever reasonably possible.
4. Transparency
When we make significant changes or corrections to an article, we seek to disclose them transparently. Where content may include opinion, commentary or analysis, it should be clearly distinguished from straight news reporting.
5. Conflicts of interest
Contributors and editors are expected to disclose any potential conflicts of interest relevant to a story. Where a conflict cannot be avoided, we aim to disclose it to readers.
This Code may evolve over time as we refine our editorial processes and respond to reader feedback.
