High-Ranking Russian General Dies in Car Bomb Attack
A senior Russian army officer has died after a bomb exploded under his car in southern Moscow. This news comes from the AP news agency, which quoted Russian investigators.
The explosion happened on Monday morning in the Yasenevo district. The officer was on his way to work when the bomb went off.
Who Was General Fanil Sarvarov?
Russian news reports said the officer killed was Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov. He was 56 years old. General Sarvarov held a very important position in the Russian Armed Forces. He was the head of the Operational Training Directorate of the General Staff.
Ukraine Suspected in the Killing
Svetlana Petrenko, a spokesperson for Russia's Investigative Committee, stated they are looking into many possible reasons for this murder. She said, "One of these is that the crime was planned by Ukrainian intelligence services."
Early reports from Ukraine National News mentioned that the explosion was caused by a homemade bomb. This bomb was placed under a Kia Sorento car and blew up shortly after the vehicle started moving.
Investigators have confirmed they are exploring multiple leads in their investigation.
War Continues in Ukraine
