Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Ethiopia for the first time. During his visit, he received Ethiopia's highest civilian award, called "The Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia."

A Special Recognition

PM Modi felt very proud to receive this award from an "ancient and rich civilisation." He said the award was for all people in India. He also said it shows how many Indians have helped make India and Ethiopia stronger friends.

He thanked his friend, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. PM Modi shared that PM Abiy had invited him to Ethiopia during a meeting in South Africa. Modi said he happily accepted his friend's invitation.

India and Ethiopia Become Strategic Partners

During the visit, India and Ethiopia decided to make their relationship much stronger. They agreed to become "strategic partners."

PM Modi met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. They talked about many important things for both countries and the region. PM Modi said this new partnership will bring "new energy, new speed, and new depth" to their friendship.

Key Areas of Cooperation

The leaders agreed to work together in several important areas:

  • Economy: Helping each other's businesses and trade grow.
  • Innovation: Working on new ideas and solutions.
  • Technology: Sharing knowledge and advancements.
  • Defense: Cooperating on security matters.

Upcoming Engagements and Travel

PM Modi is also planned to speak to Ethiopia's Parliament. He will talk about India's journey as a democracy and why the partnership between India and Ethiopia is important for developing countries worldwide, often called the Global South.

Before Ethiopia, PM Modi visited Jordan. After Ethiopia, he will travel to Oman. This trip is part of his tour to three different countries.
