IndiGo Flight Disruptions Leave Passengers Stranded and Frustrated
Widespread flight cancellations by IndiGo have created chaos at airports across India, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and struggling to access basic necessities. The disruptions, which began on December 2nd, have led to overcrowding, food and water shortages, and a lack of essential supplies.
Stranded Passengers Face Hardship
Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has been particularly affected, with both Terminals 1 and 2 experiencing scenes of frustration and anger. Passengers have been chanting slogans against IndiGo in response to the numerous cancellations.
Reports indicate that passengers are facing several challenges:
- Lack of Basic Supplies: One incident involved a young woman who was unable to find sanitary pads at the airport pharmacy and received no assistance from staff. Her father voiced his outrage at the lack of support.
- Food and Water Shortages: Passengers have complained about restaurants running out of food and water kiosks being empty due to the overwhelming crowds.
- Medical Needs: Travelers with medical conditions, such as diabetes, are struggling to access necessary medications.
Passenger Stories of Disruption
Priyansh Vijayvargiya, a student from Indore, is facing uncertainty regarding his IndiGo flight, which has been cancelled multiple times. He is now considering a long and difficult bus journey as an alternative to ensure he makes his exams.
Karan Bora, a passenger traveling to Madhya Pradesh, reported going without food for seven hours due to the shortages at the airport.
Revathi Narayan, a 67-year-old traveller, has been waiting since Thursday night and is struggling to manage her diabetes without access to her medication.
IndiGo Faces Scrutiny
The mass cancellations and lack of support for stranded passengers have drawn strong criticism, highlighting the need for airlines to better manage operational disruptions and provide adequate assistance to those affected.
