In a significant national update, the Indian government and leading oil companies have collectively assured the public that there is absolutely no shortage of petrol and diesel across the country. They strongly advised citizens against engaging in panic buying, attributing recent queues at fuel stations to unsubstantiated rumors.
Officials Confirm Robust Fuel Availability
Sujata Sharma, a joint secretary within the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, addressed a press briefing in New Delhi. She highlighted that reports of long lines at pumps over the past couple of days were a direct consequence of misinformation regarding a potential fuel shortage.
"Please do not fall for rumors. There is no need for panic buying," Sharma stated emphatically. "Let me guarantee everyone that we possess sufficient fuel stocks. I also want to clarify that there has been no increase in the prices of petrol or diesel." This statement aims to calm public fears about both availability and cost.
Major Oil Companies Reiterate Stability
Top executives from India's primary oil marketing companies also released statements, echoing the government's message. State governments in regions like Telangana, Goa, and Madhya Pradesh independently refuted claims of a looming fuel crisis.
- Indian Oil Corporation (IOC): Arvinder Singh Sahney, Chairman of Indian Oil, used social media platform X to reassure customers. "We want to confirm to all citizens that there is no scarcity of petrol or diesel. Our IndianOil outlets nationwide are fully stocked and operating as usual," he posted. He added, "Unverified rumors can lead to unnecessary panic and disrupt supply chains. Kindly avoid panic buying and trust only official sources. Let's all act responsibly to ensure seamless fuel availability for everyone."
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL): BPCL labeled any reports of fuel shortages as "completely baseless." The company confirmed that its supply operations are stable and expertly managed across India. Their refineries, terminals, and logistics network are continuously active to guarantee steady availability. "There is plenty of fuel accessible, and retail outlets are replenished regularly. There is no need to panic; please refuel as you normally would and rely solely on verified information," BPCL stated, emphasizing their work "behind the scenes to keep the nation moving without disruption."
- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL): HPCL advised its customers to continue refuelling normally. "We wish to reassure you that there is no shortage of fuel or LPG. Customers are kindly requested to avoid panic buying and to refuel according to their usual requirements," the company communicated.
