Delhi on High Alert: Bomb Threat Shakes Capital Ahead of Budget Session
Urgent Security Measures Implemented in National Capital
The Delhi Assembly building and a key Delhi Metro station became the focus of a major security alert on Tuesday. Authorities confirmed receiving an email warning that both locations would be bombed. This serious threat emerged just before the capital's important Budget session, prompting immediate and widespread security responses across the city.
Details of the Threat Emails Emerge
Police sources have provided crucial insights into the sequence of events. The first threatening email landed in the official inbox of the Delhi Assembly at 7:28 AM. Just 21 minutes later, at 7:49 AM, a second email was sent directly to the office of Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, reiterating the dire warnings.
Both messages contained specific bomb detonation times: 1:11 PM for the Delhi Assembly and 9:11 PM for a Delhi Metro station. Notably, the emails also referenced the "Khalistan Referendum," adding a political dimension to the security scare.
Swift Security Response and Investigation
Following the alerts, security personnel swiftly mobilized. A specialized sniffer dog squad was immediately deployed to the Delhi Assembly complex to conduct thorough checks. All areas were searched intensively as part of the heightened security protocol.
Officials confirmed that the threatening emails originated from a standard Gmail account. Despite the extensive searches carried out by various security teams, no explosive devices or suspicious items were found anywhere on the premises, bringing a sigh of relief to the capital.
High-Profile Leaders Named in Threatening Messages
The emails were not only a general threat but also specifically named several prominent Indian political figures. The list of leaders mentioned included:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah
- External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar
- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta
- Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa
- Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu
